The SURCAR Asia International Automotive Painting Summit was recently held in Shanghai. Changhong Fidia was invited to attend and deliver a keynote speech, presenting its integrated solution for UV-cured insulation coating (UV Guang Kai®) on battery cells and engaging with industry partners on implementation pathways for smart, sustainable cell protection.

Integrated Solution for Battery Cell UV-Cured Insulation Coating and Printing
Centered on a hybrid process combining UV coating on five sides with UV inkjet printing on the terminal face, this solution overcomes the challenge of providing "5+1" surface protection for battery cells.

Five-sided UV spraying handles high-efficiency, large-area film formation on the bottom and four side faces, maintaining a stable throughput of 50 PPM; the process supports high loadings of functional fillers to ensure resistance to electrolytes and thermal shock. The sixth face—the terminal side—utilizes UV inkjet printing; digital recognition enables micron-level precision to avoid coating the electrodes, explosion-proof valves, and QR codes. This eliminates the need for physical masking fixtures, allows for product changeovers via simple software parameter adjustments, and achieves material utilization rates exceeding 98%.
Two processes operate in tandem on the same production line—spraying ensures performance while inkjet printing delivers precision—balancing high capacity with flexible, accurate application to provide a novel solution for battery cell insulation. Advantages of the UV-Light-Armor® (UV光铠®) Insulation Spray-Coating Solution for Battery Cells:
Eco-friendly: 100% solids content, zero VOCs/wastewater, 70% energy savings compared to traditional baking processes, and compliant with EU carbon regulations;
Precise thickness: 80–150μm (±15μm), suitable for all battery cell types;
Safety and thermal management: A 120μm coating withstands 6000V DC for 60 seconds with <0.1mA leakage current; thermal resistance remains virtually unchanged after 300 cycles, effectively transferring heat from the cell to the liquid cooling plate to prevent thermal runaway (whereas PET blue film shows increased thermal resistance and localized overheating after cycling, raising the risk of thermal runaway);
Global compliance: 12 certifications (UL, IEC, JIS), tariff-free market access to the EU, US, and Japan; multilingual interface; operational range of -40°C to 85°C; and a 40% reduction in overseas delivery lead times;
Dual cost-efficiency: Modular design adaptable to the customer's factory footprint; 92% OEE and 98% yield rate; 40% reduction in carbon footprint; cells can be bonded directly into the vehicle's battery compartment, lowering overall costs by 10–30%.

Industry Context: The new national standard GB38031-2025 mandates that batteries must neither catch fire nor explode, ushering in a "zero-tolerance" era for battery safety. Key performance characteristics—such as insulation and thermal isolation—have become fundamental to ensuring the safety of electric vehicles.
