Officially entering the Chinese market! Tesla’s FSD (Supervised) officially launches, ushering in a new landscape for the intelligent driving industry.

2026-05-21

On May 21, 2026, Tesla officially announced a major development: the inclusion of "FSD Supervised" (Full Self-Driving capability) in the list of features available in China. This announcement marks the official launch of the rollout of Tesla's core intelligent driving technology within the country. It breaks the market's long-standing "wait-and-see" stance, represents a pivotal step in Tesla's deep engagement with China's intelligent driving sector, and introduces a new variable into the competition and evolution of the domestic smart vehicle industry.

This official announcement marks not merely the launch of a new feature, but a milestone achievement for Tesla following the completion of technical adaptation, regulatory compliance adjustments, and road testing. According to official information, the currently released "Supervised FSD" (Full Self-Driving) enables—under human supervision—comprehensive assisted driving capabilities across various scenarios, including city street navigation, automatic car-following, intersection maneuvering, and intelligent obstacle avoidance. Unlike traditional basic driver-assistance systems, its algorithmic models are capable of handling complex road conditions, significantly reducing the driver's operational workload. Meanwhile, Tesla China customer service has clarified that the feature has not yet been officially rolled out; the team is actively advancing the approval process and will make it available to owners of compatible models immediately upon authorization.

In fact, Tesla has long been laying the groundwork for bringing FSD to China, addressing the industry-wide challenge of adapting algorithms originally developed overseas to local conditions. To tackle unique traffic scenarios—such as dense traffic, the mixing of motor vehicles with non-motorized traffic, and complex interactions at intersections—Tesla has conducted large-scale real-world road tests in nine major cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, and Wuhan. These tests have allowed for the continuous collection of local road data and the iterative refinement of its algorithms. Concurrently, Tesla’s AI training center in Lingang, Shanghai, has become fully operational, and a new version of FSD optimized specifically for the Chinese market has entered internal employee testing, marking the completion of key technical localization efforts.

For consumers, this rollout will further expand the range of intelligent driving options available. All Tesla models currently sold in China come with the necessary hardware pre-installed, allowing them to support FSD without requiring additional modifications; users can subsequently unlock these advanced intelligent driving capabilities via subscription or a one-time purchase. Compared to domestic intelligent driving solutions, Tesla’s FSD stands out for its versatility across diverse driving scenarios and the stability of its algorithms. It is capable of meeting the complex driving demands of different cities and road conditions, delivering a standardized, high-quality intelligent driving experience to users.
